What are your credentials and/or titles?
Credentials: PhD, RDN, LDN
Tell us about your job.
I work as a research coordinator at the University of Florida and help with several studies focused on improving food access and diet quality for Floridians with low income. I enjoy all parts of my job including planning studies, training and mentoring student research assistants, managing and analyzing data, partnering with community stakeholders, interacting with participants, being involved with professional organizations like AND, and sharing research findings with colleagues. I will also be instructing a class over the summer at UF!
What do you find most interesting about your job?
I love problem solving to find the most rigorous way to implement a study in a real world setting. It is fun to take the recommendations from our stakeholders – nutrition educators, statisticians, program coordinators, instructional designers, IRB, student research assistants, evaluation experts, professors – and then figure out the best way to fit it all together and see the study through from start to finish.
How did you get into this field?
My family owned a pizza restaurant when I was growing up, so I learned to love food at an early age. I found dietetics during my second year at the University of Florida and loved that it combined my interests of cooking, health, and agriculture. A wonderful mentor during undergrad introduced me to Extension and community nutrition, and I have been hooked ever since!
Where were you born and raised?
New Smyrna Beach, Florida – a lovely beach town in central Florida
Where did you go to college and/or complete and internship?
I completed my Bachelor’s, Master’s & Dietetic Internship, and PhD at the University of Florida. Go Gators!
Besides your profession, what are your hobbies?
Baking, board games, escape rooms, family time, and working out
What are your favorite foods?
All things sweet – ice cream, cupcakes, cookies J
What is on your bucket list?
To visit New Zealand. I planned on presenting at a conference there, but it got canceled because of COVID. Fingers crossed it will be back on in 2022!
How long have you been a member of NEP DPG? And why did you join?
I am new to NEP! I joined a couple of DPGs a few years ago based on advice from a mentor. I love that NEP bring together nutrition professionals from a wide variety of career settings. I’m looking forward to learning from NEP members as I become more involved as NEP’s Chair-elect.
Any other interesting things you would like to share with NEP members.
I would love to hear from NEP members! As I mentioned above, I am pretty new to the DPG so I’d love to talk to you and learn how NEP has helped you grow. J I can be reached at email@example.com.
