Tell us about your job.
Currently, I serve as an Early Learning Manager with Puget Sound Educational Service District managing subcontractor site support for the Early Childhood and Education Assistance Program (ECEAP), Early Head Start, and Head Start programs. Site support includes education, health/nutrition/safety, and family engagement services.
What do you find most interesting about your job?
Each subcontractor is unique. I enjoy supporting childcare centers and schools in providing equitable services to children and families. My heart is filled with joy when I get out to sites and spend time with the kids.
How did you get into this field?
I have always had a passion for working with children and families. I began my career working with the WIC program, then worked in different capacities with school nutrition programs, and was fortunate upon my move to Washington State to focus specifically on early childhood programs.
Where were you born and raised?
New Orleans, Louisiana – one of the best food destinations!
Where did you go to college and/or complete an internship?
I attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette for my BS in Dietetics and Texas Woman’s University for my MS in Food Systems Administration.
Besides your profession, what are your hobbies?
I enjoy traveling as well as exploring new restaurants and hiking trails around the Pacific Northwest with my husband.
What are your favorite foods?
Boiled crawfish is my absolute favorite – and I can go for authentic Cajun or Creole cuisine any day! I also love Mexican food, especially chicken and shrimp molcajete.
What is on your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list, but next up on my travel wish list is a trip to Egypt and South Africa.
How long have you been a member of NEP DPG? And why did you join?
I joined NEP DPG in 2016 and immediately became actively involved. I was drawn to NEP because it was closely related to my work and personal interests in public health nutrition.
